Map of Australia in 1832

By 1832 colonial explorers had managed to get across the mountains of the Great Dividing Range and explore most of the southeast coast of Australia. Towns were scattered along various trading routes and sea ports were established to shelter ships during the frequent storms that lashed the remote coastline.
