Tasmania sits down under mainland Australia (which some Tasmanians refer to as 'the north island'). It's almost all green, covered in mountains and lakes, and it's breathtakingly beautiful. It's about the size of England plus a bit and you can easily drive across it in half a day. Hobart is the capital, but the first settlement was the penal colony on the southeast corner at Port Arthur. Tasmania is cold, wet and grey. Much like England. The first settlers probably felt right at home (you can see the view from our satellite photo of Tasmania).
