This map of The Northern Territory doesn't really convey the size or diversity of the place - in fact no map can. It's more than twice the size of Texas, a hell of a lot drier, and if you left a pair of shiny shoes out in the sun for too long, you could just about fry an egg on them. Much of the Northern Territory is off limits to travellers without permission from the local Aboriginal communities, so if you intend travelling of the beaten path, make sure you get an up to date map and follow instructions carefully.
